Christmas Traditions on the Homestead
Christmas season is here and that means it is time for our special Christmas traditions. We’ve a few different traditions that make our holidays special.
One of our favorite traditions during the Christmas season is the search for the perfect Christmas tree. We head out to the local tree farms and walk through the rows and rows of live trees. Bundled up in our warmest clothes and snow boots we hike through snow to locate a tree we can all agree is perfect.
Sometimes, we spot it fairly quickly and the husband can cut it and we’re done in less than an hour. This year though we visited 3 farms before we finally decided on the perfect tree.
My son decided he would cut the tree this year. Being the big 13-year-old man he is (shoot he’s already taller than me and I’m 5`8″). He got down and cut the tree like a pro. Worked that saw like a lumberjack. Him and his dad drug the tree from the woods while my daughter and I snuggled and sang (slightly off key but you know it’s all good.)
Later, we put the tree up and decorated it while sipping hot cocoa (and maybe a bit of wine.) Then, with the tree all glowing with lights we put on a Christmas movie and nibbled popcorn. This year we watched The Santa Clause though the movie itself isn’t as important as the quality time together.
It was a day filled with giggles, hugs, handholding, and love. No, life isn’t always perfect, but we do try to make it the best we possibly can. Family is important as are our friends. I hope everyone everywhere can find some joy during this season. If you have no traditions maybe start a new one. Smile and find some joy somehow.
